About this Product
The Asociacion de Productores de Cafe Ecologico Regional Larecaja (APCERL) was founded in 2001 by 120 coffee producers.
The seven coffee-producing communities of APER are located within a subtropical region of valleys that are part of Madidi National Park. APER entered the speciality coffee market in 2003, achieving a score of 85.78 at the Tasting the Peak of the Mountain event that year. They entered the international market in 2006, shipping three containers of coffee to Europe and the USA.
The association has been Organic Certified since 2002 and Smithsonian certified Bird Friendly since 2014.
They believe that shade-grown coffee production is an effective tool for environmental conservation, and are actively establishing links with coffee buyers and roasters who appreciate and recognise the conservation efforts made by coffee producers within the protected areas and national parks. Coffee cultivation, under agroforestry systems, is a sustainable way to conserve the area's fragile biodiversity and create connection corridors for wildlife.
