Cola Comforts - Colombia
About this Product
This washed lot comes from a collective of 1,325 small organic growers in the Planadas area of South Tolima. They work in 25 farmer groups, many of them continuing long standing family traditions in coffee cultivation. Grown at elevations up to 2,050 m, this lot brings together classic Colombian varieties including Castillo, Caturra and Colombia.
Planadas sits at the southern tip of Tolima near the borders with Huila and Cauca. The region lies along the central branch of the Colombian Andes, giving farmers cool temperatures, reliable rainfall, strong sunlight and rich volcanic soils. The area has a long history of conflict and many communities were previously isolated from wider markets and support. Because of this, coffee farming here has always relied on dedication, resilience and family knowledge passed through generations.
Cherries for this lot are grown organically and carefully selected before de pulping. They are fermented to break down the mucilage then fully washed. Drying takes place in parabolic greenhouses for 10 to 18 days depending on the weather. The result is a clean and expressive cup that reflects the strength of the small holder communities in Planadas.
