Few farms carry a story quite like Finca Filadelfia. Nestled in the Antigua Valley in the shadow of three volcanoes, this is where Guatemalan coffee growing began.
In 1864, Manuel Matheu — the sixth generation's great-great-great-grandfather — made a pivotal decision. His farm had been growing cochineal, the insect used to produce natural red dye, but the industrial revolution had just rendered it obsolete overnight. Rather than accept ruin, Manuel replanted in coffee. After his first harvest, he sailed to London to sell the crop. The trip was such a success that the President of Guatemala commissioned him to teach other farmers how to do the same. The Antigua coffee region was born.
Over 160 years later, the farm is still in the Dalton family — now in its fifth and sixth generations — and the obsession with quality is as fierce as ever. Marta's great-grandmother Elisa ran the farm until the age of 95 and placed second in Guatemala's very first Cup of Excellence in 2001. Today, Roberto Dalton tends his parcel with the same infectious passion, and the 2024 harvest scored an outstanding 87+.
Grown on the north side of the Antigua Valley, where the climate is particularly well suited to exceptional coffee, and processed through careful washed preparation, this is a clean, expressive cup that reflects everything this extraordinary place has to offer.
Tasting notes include green apple, plum and cocoa.
