Fjødr is our lightest, brightest blend: a light roast of washed and natural coffees from Latin America and Africa, created for people who enjoy coffee with plenty of fruit, sweetness and acidity.
The individual coffees change as fresh lots come and go, but the character stays the same. Expect a lighter body and tasting notes of lemon, berries and stone fruit.
For a lot of people, the first time they taste a genuinely light-roast espresso is a landmark moment. It’s the point where coffee suddenly stops tasting simply like “coffee” and you realise just how much flavour can be hiding in it.
It certainly was for me.
But speciality coffee can also be exhausting. There’s an endless stream of new farms, varieties, processes, roasters and releases to understand. Fascinating when you have the time, considerably less so when you’ve got a job, a family and several other things demanding your attention.
Fjødr exists for people who already know they like this kind of coffee, but sometimes just want to buy a bag and know they’re going to enjoy it.
The exact components can change throughout the year, but the brief stays the same: light-roasted, bright, sweet and fruit-forward, with plenty of character and no requirement to do homework before you brew it.
That idea became particularly important to me after my daughter was born. I had far less time to research exactly which farm, process or variety was the newest and most interesting, but I hadn’t suddenly stopped wanting really good coffee. Fjødr, and the coffees that came before it, fuelled the night feeds and sleep-deprived mornings, giving me something reliably in my wheelhouse without needing to think too hard about it.
As a filter coffee, it’s bright, juicy and aromatic, and works beautifully through a V60, AeroPress or batch brewer.
As an espresso, it’s sweet, lively and deliberately fruit-forward. It’s at its best black, although it also works very well in smaller milk drinks such as a flat white or cortado, where the character of the coffee can still come through.
