Colombia has become known for producing some of the most forward-thinking and entrepreneurial farms in specialty coffee, and Café Granja La Esperanza (CGLE) have been at the forefront of that for over a decade now. Long before experimental processing and exotic cultivars became widespread across the industry, CGLE were already exploring how different varietals/cultivars, processing techniques and plots of land could influence cup quality. Their farms have become known for an investigative approach to coffee production, driven by curiosity and quality.
Some of our team visited their farms in 2022 and were struck by the level of detail throughout the production process; more reminiscent of a vineyard than a conventional coffee farm.
Many of our most memorable Colombian coffees have come from CGLE, including releases such as Hybrid 17 and Lupé Maria. Alongside their more unusual cultivars, their Geshas remain some of the most impressive coffees they produce, with entire plots dedicated to the varietal. This lot from their Las Margaritas farm is an excellent example of that.
