About this Product
Great Rift Coffee is a family-run farm in Kenya’s Nandi Hills, established five years ago following a transition from sugarcane to coffee. Their aim is to showcase the potential of Nandi Hills as an emerging specialty coffee region.
This lot is sourced from a group of nearby smallholder farmers who have long-term partnerships with Great Rift. Each farmer cultivates coffee on their own land before delivering their cherries to Great Rift for careful processing.
The same volcanic soils that supported sugarcane for decades now nourish SL28, Batian, and Ruiru 11 coffee trees. Great Rift continues to operate a diverse agricultural system across the estate, with sugarcane still grown on parts of the farm, beehives supporting pollination, and livestock contributing to the farm’s regenerative cycle.
Manure from the livestock is composted and applied to the coffee fields, while water from the pulping station is channelled into the sugarcane plots. This circular approach supports soil health, reduces waste, and reflects Great Rift’s commitment to responsible farming.
The team oversees every stage of production, from field management through to processing, ensuring traceability, careful handling, and a continued focus on quality improvement season after season.
