More Information
We don’t have favourites here at the roastery, but if we did then Agri Evolve certainly would be in the mix. Ever since Steff’s visit in 2021, we have loved and are committed to buying their coffee year on year and we are always blown away by the quality of all their crops. Their ‘natural’ processed coffee has become a house favourite of ours, and the latest harvest they have brought has all the lovely fruity, juicy and funky flavours we’ve come to expect from their coffee.
Our latest offering comes from Mahango, a community 1800m up into the foothills of the Rwenzoris, with many farmers living and growing coffee well above this height. Mahango was one of the first communities where Agri Evolve established a buying centre 8 years ago. Farmers typically have between 1 and 2 acres of land and coffee is their main cash crop.
Staff from Agri Evolve regularly visit and provide training and support for the farmers. Ripe, red coffee cherries are picked daily during the harvest season and taken to the buying centre. The cherries are weighed, assessed for quality and the farmers are paid in cash with all details recorded on our digital app. From here trucks carry the cherries to our Coffee Station at Nyabirongo. When fully dried the coffee is hulled, graded, sorted and cleaned and prepared for export to the UK.
