We are incredibly proud to introduce to you, San José Ocana, Hometown's 2026 festive coffee.
This year we have decided to work with Scotland's only green bean importer, Caribbean Goods. Javier and his team specialise in importing green coffee to the UK. Their primary goal is to promote completely transparent trading, ensuring truly ethical coffee. They achieve this by sourcing the coffee directly from farmers they have personally met, which allows them to circumvent the industry issues that many farmers face and provide them with the fair work and pay they deserve.
The Sanchez family has owned the Finca San José Ocaña for over 110 years. The farm is located in San Juan Sacatepequez. San Jose Ocaña has always been a sustainable agricultural operation. This farm exclusively produces speciality coffee which is a testiment to their hard work and the farms high altitude, fertile soil and varietals.
The farm has its own wet mill on the premises which allows them to control quality. The beans at the farm are grown at 2000 meters above sea level. This increases the density of the coffee cherry which leads to lower yields but higher quality. The Sanchez family believe that every coffee bean that comes out of the farm must have the best quality possible, and it has to be produced sustainably.
In the cup we are tasting a crisp red apple sweetness, a full butterscotch body and a tart yet sweet raisin finish. We also get subtle notes of strawberry and a texture similar to Werthers Originals.
