Washed Java Fairtrade

Deep, smooth and beautifully balanced, this washed Java has a sophisticated character with rich dark chocolate at its heart. Layers of dark red fruit and subtle red wine notes bring a gentle fruitiness, while hints of liquorice and rustic spice add depth and intrigue. The cup has a smooth, medium to full body, moderate acidity and a clean, lingering finish.

Java has a long and fascinating coffee history, and this fully washed coffee offers a beautifully clear expression of the island’s character. The careful washing process removes the fruit from the coffee cherry before drying, allowing the natural flavours of the coffee to shine through with greater clarity and separation.

The result is a cleaner, more refined cup than the heavier, more rustic character traditionally associated with some Indonesian coffees. Sweet cocoa, warming spice and subtle herbal notes come together in a coffee that is both distinctive and wonderfully easy to enjoy.

This coffee is Fairtrade certified and sourced from smallholder cooperatives. The Fairtrade premium gives farming communities additional funds to invest in areas such as sustainable farming, local infrastructure and community projects, helping to create a more secure future for the farmers who produce our coffee.

A sophisticated Java with plenty of depth, but without the heaviness you might expect. Delicious as a filter coffee or cafetière, and equally rewarding when brewed as espresso.
