About this Product
This G1 coffee comes from the Asgori washing station in Hambella, within Ethiopia's renowned Guji region. Grown by local smallholder farmers cultivating an average of just 1.5 hectares each, the coffee thrives at elevations between 1,800 and 2,200 metres above sea level. Here, coffee is traditionally grown beneath the shade of existing forest trees, creating a naturally sheltered environment while preserving much of the area's native vegetation.
The Asgori washing station is operated by Boledu Coffee, an Ethiopian producer and exporter committed to quality and supporting the communities behind its coffees. Alongside providing farmers with an additional payment for their harvests, Boledu has helped fund local infrastructure, including a bridge connecting the surrounding community, and provides school supplies to children from lower-income families.
This Grade 1 lot undergoes traditional washed processing. After careful harvesting, the cherries are sorted and pulped before fermenting for approximately 48–72 hours. The coffee is then thoroughly washed and slowly dried on raised African beds for 10–12 days. Once dried, the parchment rests for several weeks before being prepared for export, helping ensure consistency and quality.
Environmental responsibility is also an important part of the operation. Wastewater from processing is collected in dedicated ponds, while coffee pulp is composted and returned to local farmers, helping recycle nutrients back into the soil.
In the cup, this coffee offers a lovely progression of flavours. Delicate nectarine aromas lead into a juicy, stone-fruit sweetness, followed by deeper blackberry notes. As the coffee develops, a distinctive kiwi berry character emerges on the finish, bringing a refreshing, gently tangy quality.
A wonderfully expressive washed Ethiopian coffee, combining delicate fruit sweetness, clarity and a refreshing finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.
