About this Product
This washed red bourbon varietal was grown at 1700 - 2100 masl across the Bujumbura region in Burundi by various smallholder farmers and processed at Migoti Washstation.
The name “Migoti” comes from a local indigenous tree, which is also the name of the mountain where Migoti built their first coffee washing station.
Migoti Coffee is a specialty coffee producer located on Migoti Mountain in Burundi, about 30 kilometers from Bujumbura. Founded in 2015 by engineers Dan Brose and Pontien Ntunzwenimana, the company aims to connect Burundian coffee farmers with international buyers through quality coffee processing and transparent supply chains
The company operates two washing stations between 1700 and 1900 meters above sea level, serving a community of over 50,000 people. These stations produce high-quality Arabica coffee, mainly from the Red Bourbon cultivar, known for its excellent flavor profile
Migoti Coffee employs both permanent and seasonal workers, many of whom are women. They provide local farmers with education on coffee tree maintenance to improve yield and quality, revitalising an industry devastated by the civil war from 1993 to 2003
Beyond coffee production, Migoti Coffee is involved in community development projects, including building a small hydropower plant to provide renewable energy and exploring new agricultural ventures like essential oil crops to diversify farmers' income
