About this Product
The Pure Java Backstory
The word ‘Java’ became a synonym for coffee long before most people gave a second thought to origin or terroir. The island’s colonial coffee history stretches back to the seventeenth century, making it one of the oldest coffee-producing regions on record, and the government estate coffees grown on its volcanic slopes still carry the weight of that history in every bean. Pure Java is Nairobi’s tribute to an origin that gave the world one of its most enduring obsessions. Java’s estate-grown Arabica coffee beans are wet-processed with a precision that reflects centuries of accumulated expertise, and the result is a coffee of unusual cleanliness for a dark roast: earthy and full-bodied, certainly, with the heavy, rounded weight that characterises the island’s best, but without the harsh bitterness that inferior dark-roasted coffees so often mistake for character. Whether enjoyed as a classic black coffee americano, a bold cappuccino, a dark mocha, or a deeply atmospheric cortado coffee, Pure Java is a speciality coffee with a story as rich as its flavour.
Roast Level: Dark
Characteristics of the Pure Java
Coffee Strength
Pure Java is roasted to a dark strength (level 4 to 5).
Coffee Aroma
Expect cedar, dark cocoa, tobacco, and a warm herbal undercurrent from these coffee beans.
Coffee Flavour
Flavours of cedar wood, dark cocoa, tobacco leaf, and a subtle herbal note.
Coffee Body
A heavy, rounded, full body – earthy, clean, and satisfyingly weighty.
Coffee Texture
Dense and smooth, with a mouthfeel that carries the cedar and cocoa character of these coffee beans to a long, herbal finish.
Coffee Palate
A long, smooth, herbal-and-dark-cocoa finish that settles thoughtfully and extends far beyond the cup’s size.
Storage Recommendation
The Pure Java stays fresher longer when:
• Store Java coffee beans airtight, cool, and away from all light – the dark roast surface oils and cedar aromatics are sensitive to air.
• Grind coffee beans only immediately before brewing – these coffee beans are most aromatic in the moments after grinding.
• Avoid temperature fluctuation; cool, stable storage protects the earthy aromatics of these coffee beans most effectively.
