Myanmar coffee
15 Myanmar coffees from 9 independent UK roasters, from £3.85.
Myanmar (Burma) is one of the newest speciality origins to reach UK shelves, and its story is compelling. Arabica grows in the northern Shan hills at good altitude, and international development projects have helped smallholders shift from opium to carefully-processed coffee. The results can be excellent: clean, sweet washed lots with orange, honey and soft florals, and lively, fruit-forward naturals. Volumes are small and quality-driven, so Burmese coffee appears mostly as limited single-origin releases. Political turmoil makes sourcing sensitive, and reputable roasters are careful about their supply chains. For drinkers who enjoy discovering origins early — and supporting farmers rebuilding their livelihoods — Myanmar offers genuine quality and a meaningful backstory.
