Rwanda coffee

228 Rwanda coffees from 146 independent UK roasters, from £3.35.

Rwanda has become an East African favourite in UK cafés, offering much of Kenya’s brightness at friendlier prices. Grown at altitude on “thousand hills” smallholdings and processed through well-run washing stations, Bourbon-variety Rwandan coffee is clean and elegant: red fruit, orange, florals and a silky, tea-like body. It is bright without Kenya’s savoury intensity, which makes it approachable as both filter and a fruit-forward espresso. Watch for the “potato defect”, a rare taint the best exporters screen out — reputable UK roasters do. If you want a characterful, sweet, ethically-traceable African coffee to drink every day rather than as a treat, Rwanda is an excellent, affordable entry point.
