Bolivia makes small quantities of beautifully clean, sweet coffee and is a favourite among drinkers who like to seek out the unusual. Grown at very high altitude in the Yungas region above La Paz, largely by smallholders and often organic, Bolivian coffee is delicate and elegant: caramel, red fruit, florals and a refined, gentle acidity. Landlocked geography and tiny volumes make it hard to export, so it rarely appears in the UK — and when it does, it is usually a limited micro-lot from a quality-focused roaster. Brew it as filter to enjoy its clarity. For fans of clean, sweet, high-grown Latin American coffee, a Bolivian lot is a quietly special find.
