Papua New Guinea coffee

78 Papua New Guinea coffees from 53 independent UK roasters, from £2.37.

Papua New Guinea makes distinctive, characterful coffee from some of the most remote farms on the planet. Grown in the Highlands by smallholder “garden” producers and larger estates, often from Jamaican Blue Mountain-descended Typica, PNG coffee tends to be full-bodied and rich with tropical fruit, cocoa and a savoury, herbal edge — a little of Indonesia’s heft with more brightness. Processing and quality vary, so a well-sourced lot from a reputable UK roaster is worth the search. It brews well as filter and adds depth to espresso. For drinkers who enjoy Sumatran body but want a touch more fruit and clarity, PNG is a compelling, less-common choice.
